The Mobile Phones of Doctor Who - The Specials

To celebrate the upcoming series Doctor Who staring Jodie Whittaker, I'm attempting to chronicle all the mobile phones used in previous shows.

If you think you've spotted something that's not listed here, or think I've made a mistake, drop it in the comments.

You can follow along with all 10 series.

The Doctor - Planet of the Dead

After being stuck on an interstellar bus, W'Kabi Barclay gives his phone to The Doctor to be upgraded.

The Doctor with another Nokia phone.

That patterned back! Obviously the Nokia Prism 7500.

Phones were so much more interesting back in the day. Now everything is a smooth black rectangle...

Nathan - Planet of the Dead

Another bus passenger has this chunky silver slider. Nathan with a chunky silver phone.

I've searched my databanks but cannot find anything definitive. If you recognise this flat-bottomed phone, stick a message in the comments.

I think it could be the Nokia E66 - it's as thick, and has a similar port on the lower left side. The screw placement on the top of the slider is also a match. But this business phone seems like a bizarre prop for unemployed Nathan.

Update! That clever Mr Whatley has the answer:

Capt Magambo and Dr Malcolm - Planet of the Dead

The scientist stuck back in base has this rather chunky handset handed to him by Capt Magambo.

(Note the continuity error - the picture has rotated when it should be in portrait as the home screen.)

A curious phone.

Huge camera unit on the back, and headphone socket on the side. It is the Motorola ZN5.

Front, side, and rear view of the phone.

Wilf - The End of Time

Oh-ho! This is an interesting one! Wilf has a phone, which The Master snatches. The Master holding a Nokia candybar phone. He's upgraded from his old Nokia 6310i to the Nokia 6500 - so what?

This is Donna's old phone! She used this throughout S04. Donna has upgraded her phone and give her cast-off to her old granddad! Brilliant prop continuity.

So what's Chiswick's best secretary using nowadays?

Donna with a slider.

That's all we see. Seems to be a slider with a silver top and black body. Could be anything.

Based on the thickness and silver trim, I'm tentatively going with the Nokia 6700 - but I'm happy to be corrected.

2021 Update! As pointed out in the comments, The Silver Cloak scene features a brief glimpse of a mobile used to take the group photo with The Doctor: Old white actor holding a phone. Minnie Hooper (June Whitfield) hands this little silver slider to Oliver Barnes (Barry Howard). Based on the brief shot of the camera array, I think it's the Nokia 6111.

I Don't Want To Go!

And that's a wrap for David Tennant! On to S05 and the Matt Smith era. There are smartphones coming up, finally!

I believe you've forgotten a phone in The End of Time: Part 1. About 24 minutes in, Minnie the Menace asks for a photo with The Doctor, and she gives a white slider to the old man. It could possible be a Nokia, but I'm not too sure.
