All the books I read this year

This has been a tough year - I've found it hard to get back in to reading. A few books knocked me off my stride and the lack of a commute meant less downtime for reading. Nevertheless, 46 books isn't too bad!

A colourful montage of book covers.

Of note, for the first time in ages I read a couple of paper books! Like some kind of old-fashioned cave-man!

  • Myself When Young from 1938 is astounding. If you want to understand proto-feminism or how society viewed itself, it is a must read.
  • The Intergalactic Omniglot was a book I first read in the last century. I bought it as a house-warming present for my mate Jess but couldn't resist re-reading it.

This was a good year for reading books written by people I know!

Stats!

  • About 60% female authorship (depending on how you count compilations). I've written before about trying to address my gender bias in reading.
  • About 50% non-fiction. I try to alternate between the two. So I'm pretty consistent with that!
  • My average score is 4 stars. Either I am overly generous or I only read above-average books.
  • Male authors get an average score of 3.9, whereas female authors do slightly better at 4.3.
  • I rate fiction and non-fiction about the same.

Feel free to grab the metadata from my archives if you want a deeper dive.
