OK, this might be the weirdest, most zeitgeisty thing I've ever been asked to review!

I mean, it is literally exactly what you think it is. A device to turn your expensive smartphone into a penny-ante plastic gizmo. Oh, and there's an app!

This is the preposterously named Ring Spinner (stop snickering at the back)! If you are overcome with desire to spin your ring (stop it) you can pick them up on Indiegogo for about $7 each.

Here's the gist. It sticks to the back of your phone. You can then spin your phone. Or, as the manufacturer says...

Although originally invented to cure spiritual issues, the Ring Spinner does much better than ordinary fidget spinners. With the function of the ring holder and fidget spinner, Ring Spinner not only ensures the protection of your cellphone but it allows you to fidget your phone whenever you feel unquiet. We invent the Ring Spinner to aid in focus, stress-relief, help people who suffering with PTSD, Autism, ADHD and smoking addictive.

Yeah... OK!

Let's take it for a spin.

It's important to note that this will only work on phones with flat backs. Sorry Nexus 6 users. Also, it won't work if you have a phone case.

It's also important to note that if the sticker fails and your phone goes hurtling to the ground while spinning at speed… that'll probably void your warranty. But, hey, at least your ring got a thorough spinning first.

There's an app for Android and for iPhone - it lights up in funny patters which look "cool" when you spin them. Which is nice, I guess.

As with any crowd-funded product, there's already a range of cheap knock-offs available on Amazon.

If you have a burning need to delicately place your finger through a ring and twirl your phone at super-speed, you can back the Zonto Ring Spinner on Indiegogo.

The world has gone round the twist.
