Bitwarden's new username generator is brilliant
I've been using Bitwarden for years. It generates a unique password for every website I visit. There's only been one small problem - I want a unique username for each website.
Let me explain. Sometimes websites sell or leak your email address to spammers. If you're using yourname@example.com
for every site, you'll never know who leaked your details. Bitwarden can fix that!
So now, with a couple of clicks, you can tell Bitwarden to generate a unique random email address. If the email attracts spam, you'll know where it has come from and will be able to easily block it.
Here's what the process looks like:
You can also tell it to use plus addressing - yourname+random@example.com
. Or you can have it generate an address based on the domain you're logging in to - facebook.com@example.com
You can read more about the new feature on Bitwarden's blog.
I thoroughly recommend using a unique password and email address on every service you use. It increases your security and protects your privacy.

Ok that seals it. I'm switching from Lastpass to Bitwarden.

I used to do this with spamgourmet.com. It also has a nice feature in that you can set the max emails you want to receive on that email address. So you can do unique.3.username@spamgourmet.com and it would swallow emails after the 3 emails had been received.

I use plus addressing now. Though I find I get less spam / unsolicited email these days so less of an issue.

GPWM, but this breaks the operating model of services like Gravatar.
I wonder if it could be made possible to have Gravatar operate on a per-domain basis?
@edent says:
Gravatar uses the MD5 hash of the full email address. I did ask them a while back about supporting domains, but they weren't interested.
Lack of Gravatar is, IMO, a small price to pay for enhanced privacy.

That's remarkably excellent.

Omg, this sits very well with the email server tinkering I was doing a few weeks ago. (And I pay for @Bitwarden and highly recommend it)

@Edent I have been dying for a feature like this for the past decade. So glad Bitwarden has it now!

I've been wanting this for ages. I thought I was the only one! Bitwarden is really the best password manager out there.

I do this all the time, but it doesn’t half confuse people when giving your email over the phone -“but that’s us?”

@Edent Thanks for taking it for a spin! 🙏 🔒
