Fancy a quickie in Scotland's most haunted pub? Smut Slam is a (mildly) interactive performance where a handful of speakers get to tell their dirtiest stories. The audience fills in cards with their questions or confessions which may be read out.
The format mostly works. There are different stories every night, so maybe we got a slightly uninspiring batch. Tales of sex parties, STIs, and broken sex-toys are fun enough but weren't exactly mind-blowing. The audience participation kind of slowed the pace down as each hastily scribbled card had to be quietly read to make sure it didn't violate the code of conduct.
I'm all for making spaces safe and inclusive - I just think the cards could have been vetted privately while a story was being told. That would have kept the pace up and given the stories a bit more space to breathe.
There are Smut Slams happening all over the world and I reckon it's worth checking to see if there's one near you to see if it floats your boat. They've obviously built an audience which is hungry for more - but I found it a bit tepid.
