Not that I agree with the final decision, but there is one more argument to the barrel connector: It is more reliable and durable (not only easier to connect). I have had several mini-usb and micro-usb connectors break (the male end). I have yet to see a barrel connector break (usually it’s the female connector on laptops that gets loose inside the case). And yes, having 1000 different types of USB-C cables (usb2, 3, 3.1, thunderbolt3, usb4, DisplayPort-only, etc…) without proper branding on cables makes a nightmare to customer support. The USB standard should have seen this coming and fixed it via mandatory markings on the cable end.
