Yes, the code I've written will run on a Raspberry Pi. I've done work for other companies who have used Pi or Arduino as small servers. If the Inverter (or whatever) has a basic serial port, it's pretty easy to write something to interface with it and get data out. However, depending on how you value your time, £250 is pretty cheap to have something which "just works".
