I can't help feeling that the driving force for the app is the potential income stream. If the apps fail to improve the experience then they will fail. If the apps become an essential part of the museum experience then I guess we have a return to charging for use of British museums.
If we are to avoid a major share going to the phone company (whatever the choice) then we need Wi Fi although I'm told its a six figure installation fee for a large museum. Are we willing to buy proprietary apps to fund the installation?
